BANGALORE: Congress president Sonia Gandhi is very keen on getting the contentious Women’s Reservation Bill passed in the upcoming monsoon session of Lok Sabha, AICC women’s wing president Anita Verma said here on Monday.Addressing newsmen after attending a day-long party meet, she said that Sonia was in constant touch with leaders of other political parties in order to work out a consensus on the issue. The Congress has launched its fight against corruption which was evident when the scandal-tainted Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan was asked to step down. “It is a pity to see the BJP not taking action against Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa despite being neck-deep in corruption”She said that party women leaders resolved to create awareness about various welfare schemes of the Centre for women and poorer societal sections. It was also resolved to impart education to elected members of the panchayat raj institutions to enable them to discharge their duties more efficient than their male counterparts. “Our party wing will chalk out programmes to empower the elected women members by educating them on their rights so that they will not have to depend on their spouses,” she said.
