Three persons arrested for dowry death

BERHAMPUR: Kabisuryanagar Police arrested three persons, including a woman, in connection with an alleged dowry death. Police said Kaberi Khatei had married Akula Khatei of Sinduriapada last year. She was found dead under suspicious circumstances on Sunday.While the police were told that she had committed suicide by hanging, her parents alleged murder and lodged a complaint.According to the complaint, Akula was working at Surat and his family had demanded Rs 50,000 and gold ornaments for the marriage. However, due to financial crisis Kaberi’s parents could afford only Rs 30,000 and had promised to pay the balance later.Akula had returned from Surat recently and on Saturday asked Kaberi to get the remaining Rs 20,000. She communicated it to her parents who asked her to wait for sometime. This led to heated exchanges between the couple and Kaberi was found hanging the next day.The police have arrested Akula, his sister Nita and father Judhistir and are investigating.No power, villagers storm Southco officeProtesting the callous attitude of Southco officials, residents of Baulajholi village besieged the company’s office at Kukudakhandi. Due to lack of maintenance, the transformer at Baulajholi conked out and villagers are making do without power for last three days.
