CHENNAI: In a shocking incident, a two-year-old boy, who was playing inside a locked car, died apparently of suffocation in Pattabiram on Sunday. According to police, Maruthi (25), a Central Government employee of Kakanji Nagar, Pattabiram, had locked his son Elamaran inside the car after switching on the air conditioner while he went to attend some work at his office. On his return barely 20 minutes later, he found his son unconscious inside the car. Maruthi rushed the child to a private hospital nearby, where he was declared brought dead.Police said they suspected that the man could have parked the car in hot sun and locked it. The air conditioner would not have been effective in the hot weather as the vehicle was stationary and could have caused the little boy to suffocate, they added. Pattabiram police was inquiring into the case.
