Jodhpur: The killer flash floods and landslides in Uttarakhand have taken a heavy toll of life and property. The survivors have come back with horrific tales of people being washed away in swollen rivers, crushed under boulders during landslides, dying due to hunger and cold and of their relatives crying for help during the ordeal.
Jodhpur's Rathi family also lost some of its family members in the tragedy. While one woman of the family died, a young boy is still missing. One of the survivors Dinesh Rathi, who had gone on Chardham Yatra with his wife and two sons on June 9, narrated his tragic and painful experience. They started the trek to Kedardham on June 15. But floods and landslides hit the area in the middle of their trek trapping several hundred tourists in the area.
Rathi said that many people started to climb the hills to escape the flood waters. In the melee Rathi lost his wife Kiran and younger son Garvit. His elder son Kushal suffered head injuries. He started to search for his wife Kiran and Garvit after day break.
Kiran's body was found crushed under rocks and he could manage to take her out only with the help of other tourists. He kept on staring at Kiran's body for several hours and then wrapped it in a quilt and left it in the river.
Rathi and his family members have been shattered after the loss of Kiran and Garviit, who is yet to be traced.
