Will PM visit Pakistan in July?
President Pervez Musharraf has invited PM Manmohan Singh to visit his country. PM is to oblige only if a 'substantive' outcome is expected.

New Delhi: Amid media speculation that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh may visit Pakistan in July, the official view is that the trip would take place only if a 'substantive' outcome is expected.

President Pervez Musharraf has invited Singh to visit his country and it is officially stated that no decision has been taken on its timing.

A 'substantive outcome' and 'an opportune time' are the two elements being emphasised in Delhi for the visit to materialise.

"Depending on when you think the time is opportune, I am sure the Prime Minister will think of going across. So we can't (guess) whether it will be now, later or it may be earlier than we think," National Security Adviser (NSA) M K Narayanan said.

He said, "The Prime Minister would like to go at a time when it does make sense to go rather than making a trip for the sake of it."

"If there is something substantive as an outcome (of the peace process), I think that's the (time he will consider making a trip). That could happen any time and it could take longer," the NSA said.

What's your reaction?
