Telugu film producer, actor and Congress politician Bandla Ganesh has been sentenced to one year in prison and fined Rs 95 lakh in a check bounce case, according to a report by India Today. The district court in Ongole, Andhra Pradesh ordered Bandla to pay all legal fees and sentenced him to jail concerning the cheque bounce case.
The case unfolded in 2019 after Bandla Ganesh borrowed Rs 95 lakh from an individual called Jetti Venkateshwarlu and gave him a post-dated cheque for the same amount. Jetti hails from Muppalla village in Guntur. However, the cheque bounced due to insufficient funds following which the victim went on to take legal action against the actor-producer.
The Ongole court, following a long-drawn court battle, pronounced its verdict on Wednesday. It ruled against Bandla, however, giving him a month to file an appeal, adding that he would not be arrested immediately.
While Bandla is yet to make any statement, he took to X, sharing a cryptic post on social media. It read, “The truth is always the last place you look.” The tweet by the producer and actor amid the legal problems, left many shocked with one of them even asking, “You didn’t go to jail yet?” Another wrote, “Jail lo neeku mobile ichara anna.. thondaraga bayatiki vachey anna,” which can be loosely translated as “Were you given a mobile in jail, hope you come out soon.”
Bandla Ganesh, earlier in 2017, was caught up in the controversies for a similar case. He was sentenced to six months in jail by the Erramanzil court and was fined Rs 15.86 lakh. The punishment came after writer-director Vakkantham Vamsi lodged the case back then complaining that Bandla had given him the cheque to work on Jr NTR’s film Temper which bounced due to insufficient funds.
Bandla Ganesh is known for proving his mettle as a character artiste. Besides, he also made his mark in production as he bankrolled films like Pawan Kalyan’s Gabbar Singh and Allu Arjun’s Iddarammayilatho.
