'Bharat Bhagyo Bidhata' from 'Rajkahini' is a Tagore song and not an extended version of the national anthem

Set during the partition period, upcoming Bengali film 'Rajkahini' has been creating quite a lot of buzz specially due to the film's gripping trailer and newly released song 'Bharat Bhagyo Bidhata'. Directed by National Award winning director Srijit Mukherji, 'Rajkahini' boasts of a some big names of Bengali cinema including Rituparna Sengupta, Jishhu Sengupta, Abir Chatterjee, Parno Mitra and others.

The song, ever since its release on Saturday, has already crossed more than 1 lakh views on YouTube. Sung by some of the popular singers of Bengal including Kabir Suman, Kaushiki Chakraborty, Rupam Islam and others, the song will instantly remind you of our national anthem. But is it right to call it an extended version of the anthem? Perhaps not. The national anthem is the first stanza of a poem 'Bharat Bhagyo Bidhata' written by Rabindranath Tagore. The song in 'Rajkahini' is actually the rest of the poem which was composed by Tagore himself. The national anthem, that we sing now, is actually the first 52 seconds of the actual song.

As the director himself states, "These are not stanzas of the national anthem but of the Tagore song whose first stanza is the declared anthem."

The film is scheduled to release in October but the song has already generated a lot of curiosity. Listen to the song, even if you do not understand the language, you will surely understand the emotions.
