The year 2015 wasn’t just about phenomenal performances and great films. It was a year that gave movie buffs multiple reasons to rejoice as conventional topics and done-to-death formulas took a backseat. While the eventful 2015 saw its share of disappointments, it did surprise many as successful films didn’t only stick to big production houses. There were several small budget and independent films which were impressive in their own niche ways. In the third edition of IBNLive Movie Awards, we select nominees in various popular categories and allow our readers decide the outcome. Take our poll to vote and choose Best Actress (South) of 2015.

Sridevi (Puli): The popular actress made a comeback to Tamil films, after a gap of nearly three years, with ‘Puli’. Touted as a fantasy drama, it featured her in the role of a cruel queen. As it so happens, the film also featured Vijay and Sudeep in the lead.

Jyothika (36 Vayadhinile): Jyothika, who was last seen on the big screen in 2009, made a triumphant comeback when she starred in the Rosshan Andrrews-directed ‘36 Vayadhinile’ Featuring her in the role of a clerk, it was produced by Suriya and found tremendous success at the box office. Interestingly, ’36 Vayadhinile’ was a remake of the Malayalam drama ‘How Old are You?’

Nayanthara (Maya): Nayanthara has had three successful films in a row in Tamil cinema. ‘Thani Oruvan’, ‘Maya’ and ‘Naanum Rowdy Thaan’ was enough to prove her acting prowess.

Shruti Haasan (Srimanthudu): In 2015, Kamal Haasan’s elder daughter was seen in two successful Tamil films – Ajith’s 'Vedhalam' and Vijay’s 'Puli'. But it was Mahesh Babu’s 'Srimanthudu' that helped her leave an impact.

Radhika Pandit (Mr and Mrs Ramachari): Radhika Pandit was seen in ‘Mr and Mrs Ramachari’ this year. Written and directed by Santhosh Ananddaram and produced by the duo Jayanna and Bhogendra under the banner Jayanna Combines, the film also featured Yash, Srinath, Achyuth Kumar and Malavika Avinash.

Parvathy (Ennu Ninte Moideen): Parvathy was lauded for her efforts in Malayalam romantic thriller ‘Ennu Ninte Moideen’. Written and directed by RS Vimal, it based on the real-life story of Moideen and Kanchanamala, which took place in the 1960s in Mukkam, Kozhikode.
