You can't classify art, one might not enjoy it but the other person will: Vir Das on doing 'Mastizaade'

‘Mastizaade’ will be actor-stand up comic Vir Das’ first release this year. Termed as an adult comedy, Milap Zaveri’s directorial also stars Tusshar Kpaoor and Sunny Leone. An outright sex comedy, 'Mastizaade' has everything from double meaning jokes to overtly secularization of Sunny's image. Vir, who made his debut with 'Delhi Belly', a film famous for its explicit language and content, this time, is sure that this film will entertain the certain set of audience.

In his recent potcast Vir gave an answer to all those asking him why did he opt for the film, by saying, 'If one can handle the same thing in English through films like 'American Pie', he doesn't want to be a hypocrite by being disgusted by it in Hindi." So, does he think Indian audience is mature enough to handle a desi version of 'American Pie'? Vir says, "My audience so far had been a very niche one. Therefore they have been criticising this move of mine. However, it's time for me to explore a much wider audience that lies beyond the mic. The hindi speaking audience that enjoys a film as a source of entertainment. You can't really classify art, you might not enjoy it but other person will."

Vir feels that he wants to try something that he hasn't done before. According to him, "Mastizaade is a comedy film, portraying things that are not real. Any man with a brain will see that it's a comedy film with nothing realistic! If that content makes you think, that it's affecting the society, then you are crazy!"

Vir quotes an example of an earlier film done by him , 'Revolver Rani', which was an action-drama film starring Kangana Rananut. Vir says, "The film had so much draped as reality which I feel is more dangerous. You buy nonsense when it is shown in so called serious film. Here, we are promoting 'Mastizaade' as a film which is nonsensical, fiction film meant for entertainment of certain audience. If you like such content come watch the film, otherwise don't."

So will we see less of Vir Das the comedian, now that he has six films to be released this year? The stand up comic says, "Not at all. My shows will go on, so will the potcasts and even Alien Chutney. I decided to sleep more this year, but I can already feel that resolution breaking." According to Vir, objectification of women is done more in such films than in adult comedies where everybody knows that everything is superficial.

After adult comedy 'Mastizaade', Vir will be seen in serious drama films like, '31st October', 'Shivay' and 'Plan B' apart from other comedy films like 'Santa Banta' and 'Khanna Patel'.
