Hyderabad: The prime accused in the murder of TDP MLA Paritala Ravi was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Monday evening, the police said.
Maddelacheruvu Suryanarayana Reddy, alias Suri, was seriously injured in the attack and rushed to the Apollo Hospital in Jubilee Hills where he succumbed at about 8 pm, doctors attending on him told reporters.
The 39-year-old was brought in an unconscious condition to the hospital at around 5.45 pm. He was bleeding from head. A scan revealed that he had suffered bullet injuries in the brain, a doctor who operated on him said.
"Suri's condition was extremely critical on arrival and it continued to deteriorate despite our best efforts. A team of neurosurgeons, neurologists and intensive care doctors attended on to him but despite the best efforts he died," the doctor said.
According to the police, the assailants fired two rounds on Suri while he was travelling in his car after meeting his advocate at Navodaya Colony in Yousufguda at around 4 pm.
Hyderabad Commissioner of Police A K Khan, quoting the car driver, earlier told reporters that Suri, along with another person, was travelling in the car when the incident occurred.
The driver, Khan said, told the police that Suri was shot at two rounds on his head from behind, and soon after the incident the other person in the car (whose identification was
not known) left the place. The driver then took Suri to the hospital.
