New Delhi: Pranab Mukherjee is likely to garner over 88 per cent of the 11,140 vote value from 80 MPs and MLAs of Delhi in the Presidential poll on Thursday for which elaborate arrangements have been made in the capital.
Seventy Delhi MLAs and 10 MPs, including three Rajya Sabha members, can vote in Vidhan Sabha and Parliament House complex respectively.
Congress has a clear edge against rival BJP in the poll in the national capital as it has the majority of MLAs and all the 10 MPs in its kitty.
Delhi has a vote value of 11,140 in an electoral college of over 10.98 lakh. The value of a Delhi MLA is pegged at 58 while an MP's vote value is constant at 708.
The BJP can bank on the votes of its 22 MLAs and their vote value is 1,276 and the rest of the vote value -- 9,864 -- is likely to go to Mukherjee. The voting will start at 10 am and ends at 5 pm.
According to officials, elaborate arrangements have been made in Parliament and Vidhan Sabha. In Parliament and Vidhan Sabha, there will be six Polling Officers' Tables each and members of the electoral college will be distributed in serial order among them. Six voting compartments - each covered to enable the electors maintain secrecy while marking their ballot papers - will be set up.
Of the 790 MPs, 78 have been given permission by Election Commission to vote in their home states while seven MLAs from various states have been allowed to vote here.
A senior police official said a number of police personnel have been deployed to ensure the smooth conduct of the election. "There have been advance security liaison meetings and rehearsals," the official said.
