New Delhi: Home Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday critisised Leader of Oppositin in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj for alleging that he misled the panel that selected CVC PJ Thomas.
Chidambaram reiterated that the Committee was aware of the palmolein case but no sanction to prosecute PJ Thomas had been granted since 1999 and the case was pending in a trial court.
The Supreme Court had stayed the trial of the case and the then CVC had granted vigilance clearance in respect of Thomas, informed Chidambaram
He was reacting to Sushma's statement that he misled the Selection Committee.
Sushma said Chidambaram had told the Committee that Thomas had been acquitted in the case. Following this, she had asked whether he was eligible even if he was acquitted in the case on the ground that the Central Vigilance Commissioner must be an outstanding officer with impeccable integrity.
Critisising the BJP leader, Chidambaram said Sushma Swaraj should respect the rule of sub judice and allow the Supreme Court to decide the case.
"I take exception to the statement by Ms. Sushma Swaraj, Hon'ble Leader of the Opposition, that I had misled the Selection Committee and told the Committee that Shri Thomas had been acquitted. Actually, Ms Swaraj is tying herself in knots by making thoughtless allegations," said Chidambaram.
