New Delhi: With the meteorological department predicting below normal monsoon this year, the central government is working out its contingency plans to handle such a situation.
Union ministers Arun Jaitley and Uma Bharti along with some other Cabinet members will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday evening to chalk out strategies in case the country did not receive adequate rains.
The Centre has doled out a set of advisories for the states in this concern. States have been asked to ensure availability of seeds to the farmers in case of deficient rainfall. They have also been asked to initiate drought mitigation measures which include construction of water harvesting structures, promoting cultivation of less water consuming crops and replacing faulty pumps.
The Agriculture Ministry too has called a meet with states on June 18, 19.
