Telugu actor Jagadeesh Prathap Bandari, known for his role in Pushpa: The Rise – Part 1, has been arrested on charges of abetting the suicide of a 34-year-old woman. Reports suggest that he confessed to threatening the woman by releasing intimate photos, leading to his arrest. The actor’s detention has caused a delay in the shooting of Pushpa: The Rule – Part 2. In a unique turn of events, the film’s team is rumoured to have spent a substantial amount, speculated to be Rs 15 lakh, for Jagadeesh’s bail to ensure the completion of the film’s shoot.
These reports, however, are yet to be officially confirmed. If true, this would mark an unprecedented incident in Telugu cinema, where an actor secures bail to resume film shooting. Initially, the team attempted to complete the film using Jagadeesh’s doppelganger, but the stand-in fell short in terms of acting prowess. Consequently, the film’s production reportedly opted to spend a significant sum for Jagadeesh’s release.
Jagadeesh played the role of Kesava, Pushpa’s second-in-command, in the first instalment of Pushpa. If granted bail, he is expected to reprise this role in the sequel.
The case against Jagadeesh involves allegations that, during the early stages of his career, he directed short films, and during that time, he had a romantic relationship with a woman working in a private firm who shared an interest in short films. After a brief period, the two parted ways.
Subsequently, Jagadeesh allegedly resorted to threatening the woman with the release of intimate photos, leading to her harassment. Disturbed by the continuous harassment, the woman reportedly died by suicide.
Punjagutta police arrested Jagadeesh, sending him to Chanchalguda Central Jail. According to reports, Jagadeesh harboured envy towards the woman’s relationship with another man after their separation, and he resorted to manipulation using her private photos.
The unfolding developments in Jagadeesh’s case raise concerns about the intersection of personal relationships, harassment, and the film industry’s response to such legal issues.
