Traffic violations are a pervasive issue, with individuals frequently flouting rules ranging from neglecting helmet use to disregarding red signals, often resulting in fines. Upholding traffic regulations is paramount for safeguarding both drivers and the environment. In a recent incident in Bengaluru, Karnataka, a vehicle incurred a staggering fine of Rs 3.20 lakh for multiple traffic violations within the city.
According to reports, the vehicle in question is a Honda Activa scooty, owned by a resident of Sudamanagar, Bengaluru, named Venkatraman. The cumulative fines imposed on the scooty far exceed its actual value, estimated to be between Rs 80,000 and Rs 1 lakh. It has been revealed that the vehicle accumulated over 300 fines due to the driver’s consistent failure to wear a helmet and habit of using a mobile phone while riding. The scooty, bearing the registration number KA05KF7969, was frequently observed traversing SR Nagar and Wilson Garden without adhering to traffic regulations.
Upon discovery of the vehicle, traffic police officials visited Venkatraman’s residence to collect the fines. However, Venkatraman expressed his inability to pay such a substantial amount. Instead, he proposed surrendering the scooty to the authorities. Regrettably, the depreciated value of the aged scooty, estimated at Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000, rendered it of little utility to the police. Consequently, authorities insisted that Venkatraman settle the fine, warning of potential legal action should he fail to comply. A notice concerning the case was also issued against him.
This incident highlights the seriousness with which traffic authorities address repeated violations and the financial repercussions thereof. Furthermore, it serves as a reminder of the imperative nature of road safety compliance to mitigate risks and maintain order on the streets.
Additionally, another case emerged in Bengaluru where a different vehicle incurred fines totalling Rs 1 lakh for approximately 250 violations, further highlighting the prevalence of traffic infractions in the city.
