Social media is rife with clips of people asking tricky questions to others, which even includes mathematical questions. A video is grabbing the attention of netizens, where a woman is asking her partner a straightforward question but it has an entirely different answer. Let us take a look.
The video is shared on Instagram by an account called @bowaledeen, capturing a man and a woman in a car, as she asks the man, “What is half of 4 + 4?” So, he answers it with a simple “four” because if we add the two, we get eight and the half of eight is four. But she then says, “Nope, it’s not four.” The guy, visibly confused and slightly in disbelief, says, “Yes, it is four.” Then the two engage in a little argument, which ends with the woman saying, “You are not using your brain, give up.” The video is shared with the caption, “Do you know the answer.”
Netizens take to the comment section to share their answers, with many giving detailed explanations. The first user wrote, “He is correct. Based on grammar, the (4+4) would be the bracketed sums. Then, after completing the bracketed sums of (4+4), you have 8.” A second stated, “She is saying it wrong. It isn’t bad math, it is bad Grammar.” While a third user shared a very sarcastic, “The answer is divorced.” A fourth user stated, “For those wondering, she’s asking what is (0.5×4) + 4 = 6.”
To explain the question, the woman is asking, what is the half of 4, which is 2 and add that to a 4. The answer is 6. However, the man’s answer, 4, is also not wrong. That is because if we add the two said fours, we get an eight. And to make it a half, eight is to be divided by two. So, the answer we get is 4.
