When US President Joe Biden Asked Jill Biden Five Times Before She Said Yes To Marrying Him
Joe Biden said that he was sure about marrying Jill after their second date.

US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden on February 14, Valentine’s Day, shared how they first met and what’s the secret of their nearly five-decade-long married life. Speaking with ‘Meet Cutes NYC’, a popular Instagram account that documents the first meetings of real-life couples, Jill and Joe Biden spoke about how they first met back in the 1970s. At the time, Joe was a 33-year-old senator with two young sons – Beau and Hunter. He had lost his first wife Neilia Hunter Biden and their one-year-old daughter, Naomi, in a car crash. Jill, then a 24-year-old senior college student, was separated from her first husband.

Back then, Joe Biden’s younger brother insisted he meet Jill. “I was set up on a blind date by my younger brother. He called me and said, ‘I go to school with this woman. You will love her, she is beautiful, and she doesn’t like politics,’” Joe Biden said.

“He called me on a Saturday afternoon, and he said, ‘You know this is Joe Biden’ and I said how did you get my number? He said ‘Would you like to go out tonight’; I said I am sorry, I already have a date, and he said, ‘Well, would you break it?’ I am only in for one night, so I said, well, call me back in two hours and I will see what I can do.”

The two eventually met and decided to date. Joe Biden said that he was sure about marrying Jill after their second date, but Jill needed more time convincing. In their two-year courtship period, Joe Biden asked Jill to marry him multiple times. She finally said ‘yes’ on the fifth occasion and the couple got married on June 17, 1977, at the Chapel at the United Nations in New York City. They have now been married for 47 years.

Explaining why she hesitated in marrying Joe Biden initially, Jill explained, “You have to remember I mean it wasn’t just my heart that was on the line, with Beau and Hunter, I knew that if we were gonna get married, it had to work, it had to be forever because they had already lost their mother and sister in a car accident and I knew that they couldn’t lose someone else in their life.”
