TIRUMALA: Amid the chanting of Govinda Namam by scores of devotees who thronged Tirumala, Garuda Dhwajam was hoisted on the Dwaja Stambam (Dhwajarohanam ritual) in the Srivari temple in the auspicious Meena Lagnam between 5.30 pm and 6 pm. Dhwajarohanam marked the commencement of the nineday annual Brahmotsavams of Lord Venkateswara. The rituals were performed in accordance with Vaikhanasa Agama Sastram.
Chief priest AV Ramana Deekshitulu and TTD Agama advisor Sundara Vadhana Bhattacharyulu, who was made Kankanadharu for conducting the temple event, performed special pujas to Balipeetham and Dhwajastambam for about 45 minutes prior to Dhwajarohanam.Earlier, a grand procession of Lord Malayappa Swami in Tiruchi accompanied by His Consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi and Parivara Devatas Ananta, Garuda, Chakrathalwar and Senadhipati Viswakasena and also Dwaja Patam with the image of Garuda on it was taken out.
