This is great news for all Harry Potter fans! Entertainment Weekly has revealed the first look of the set and story of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the upcoming film trilogy based on the book of the same name used by Hogwarts students.

The movie, set in 1926 New York details the adventures of the author, Newt Scamander, portrayed by Academy Award winning actor Eddie Redmayne. The magazine’s cover shows him standing outside the headquarters of the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA).

In the Harry Potter books, JK Rowling talks about wizarding schools all over the world. In fact, in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, teams from Beauxbatons Academy of Magic (France), and Durmstrang Institute (Scandinavia) travel to Hogwarts to participate in the Triwizard Tournament. Will Fantastic Beasts give us a glimpse of the American Hogwarts? Is MACUSA as dysfunctional and authoritarian as the Ministry of Magic? I guess we will have to wait and find out.

The Entertainment weekly cover is the first image of Eddie Redmayne as Scamander and shows him dressed like a muggle, albeit brandishing a wand and clutching a leather briefcase. Rowling wrote the original Fantastic Beasts book, including annotations from Harry Potter and Ron Weasley, in 2001 and the proceeds from the sale of the book went to charity. This pamphlet of a book (only 42 pages) remains true to its name and indeed talks about Fantastic Beasts and the traits that makes them...well, fantastic.

Here are the images that have been released on EW so far:

We are looking forward to the 2016 release of the Fantastic Beasts movie for a number of reasons:

Eddie Redmayne: How can we forget his performance as Stephen Hawking in 2014’s The Theory of Everything? If anyone can do justice to Newt Scamander, it is Redmayne

Fantastic beasts: The Harry Potter movies brought to life the Hippogriff, Thestral, Dementors (shudder!!), Dragons and many other fantastic beasts. How will this movie up the ante? Will we finally get to see a Nargle?

The Other President: Back in Blighty, they had the other Prime Minister. Does this mean that in the USA, the then president knew about the wizarding world? Coming to think about it, Calvin Coolidge does sound like a wizarding name. No? Ok.

David Yates: Let’s face it, the first few Harry Potter movies weren't the best, but they did eventually get better. For that we have only David Yates to thank. He took over the directorial duties of the franchise with Order of the Phoenix and by Deathly Hallows II turned the movies into a force by their own right. This writer does think that the Fantastic Beasts have an able beastmaster.

What's your reaction?
